Manitoba, Canada has been known as "the Land of a Thousand Lakes." Lakes and prairies galore, this land is definitely a place to visit at once in your lifetime. Most residents of Manitoba reside in Winnipeg which is said to be the coldest Canadian city. Though the winters may be very cold indeed, nothing can bring the shivers like a sighting of those ghosts of Manitoba. The following is a list of the top five most haunted of the Manitoba region in Canada.
5) Winnipeg, Eaton's Department Store: The Woman In Black
In the middle of the night it is reported that a spirit who walks the halls is felt before she is seen. When seen she is described as wearing black. She has been known to stare and then to disappear as quickly as she comes. She has also been known to move objects around the place. They aren't necessarily light either. Huge boxes have moved mysteriously in the night.
4) Selkirk, Young Minds Program: Hanging In There
The Yound Minds Center is located on 222 Manitoba Avenue for those who wish to visit. There is one man who has been known to haunt this building. He resides in the basement. It is said that this man is hunchbacked and has been seen hanging from the ceiling in the men's washroom. He has been known to tell those who have walked into the room to get out or to leave. He does this while looking the person directly in the eye. The story is that there was a homeless man who lived in that building until the time in which he was told to vacate the premises. He then promptly hung himself.
3) Selkirk, St. Andrew's on the Red: Dreams of Gates
St. Andrew's on the Red is actually the name of the church in front of the cemetery that is said to be haunted. There has been a man in black and a lady in white said to be drifting through the graveyard at night. A ghost car coming out of nowhere has also been described as well as the sighting of two red eyes staring out through the dark. There also has been a strange connection between those who have visited this cemetery after dark. It is said that they have all had dreams of the cemetery gates rattling.
2) Winnipeg, The Walker Theatre: "Please...."
There is a hotbed of paranormal activity. Ghostly applause has been heard throughout the theater on more than one occasion. There are some steel doors that are very heavy, yet they seem to be able to open and close all on their own. When recordings were taken in the theater nothing was heard until the tape was played back. It seems that there was banging and hammering, footsteps, and someone whispering "please" in the recorder. Stage doors seem to open of their own accord and dogs go crazy and are said to act very strange. Many believe the ghosts to be that of Laurence Irving and Mabel Hackney who died in 1914.
1) Winnipeg, Fort Garry Motel: Room 202
Fort Garry is haunted by some unknown entity in room 202. There have been feelings of someone getting into bed when there was no one else in the room. Once the entity is in the bed, it has been described as rolling around as if to get comfortable. Maids have told of blood trickling down the wall as well. This room is said to be haunted by a woman who hung herself in the closet after finding out that her husband had died in a car accident. This woman has also been seen crying in the corner and asking employees if they could get her a glass of water from the lounge.
Please remember when visiting any of these locations to be respectful of the property. Another words, always ask permission before touring the places. Otherwise happy haunting hunting.
